The Beast has arrived.

The Warp13 is finally here.
Suffice it to say at the moment I’m thrilled beyond reason.

The news for today is so insanely great, I must make an effort towards prudent restraint lest I break my rule about profanity. Fortunately for my more sensitive readers, the proper English spelling is unclear for most of what I’d like to express, comprising as it does this sonic goulash of primal Tim Allen grunting spiced with the garnish of an occasional “hot damn”. The big guy is here, and is now safely parked in the back of my garage thanks to some help from Mark Farver, and so one huge item now gets marked off the punchlist.

Motor. Done.

Pictures of the new arrival are in the Motor gallery, page 2.

Also, a couple shots of the current state of the dash, um … sans-dash, are in the Disassembly gallery, page 4.

Hey Chris

Thought I’d bip over and see what you had cooking. I see the beast has arrived, how exciting (did I miss a recieved post?). You almost have a motor that needs a car designed around it, lol. If you get around to ever pulling the CE band snap a pic or two for me of the comm and brushes. You are a true pillar of the EV community and I wanted to take this opportunity to verbilize that to you here. Best of luck finishing up. Dont let that motor sit to long now.

Hey Chris

Just happened to look again at the pics. I noticed you have a 5 studded motor. can’t make out the terminal numbers. Do you have a two speed motor or are one of those terminals for a sensor or such

Hey Jim, thanks for stopping by! There are six terminals on the side of the motor; you’ll notice A1 and A2 on the commutator end, and S1 - S4 on the drive end for the split field. S1-S2 make one field coil, S3-S4 make the other. In the “first test” pictures, I wired them in series and put 12V through the whole thing. I’m about to leave a post on that subject, and the heater.

Dave,

Thanks for your comments! I hope that this website inspires at least one poor schmuck — eh, I mean intrepid car-hacker, to do an EV conversion. Mine is pretty unusual though, it’s a heck of a lot easier to start smaller than this. I’m only going this far out on a limb because I’ve assisted with three conversions already, and so I’m familiar with a lot of the basic stuff.
